“World Teacher’s Day is an international observation held on 5 October every year, dedicated to honouring and appreciating our educators for their important role in society”, writes Children in the Wilderness (CITW) Namibia’s Veroo Kaura.
In celebration, CITW Namibia gifted their wonderful Eco-Mentors with a week’s worth of airtime to facilitate the teachers’ means of communication, showing their appreciation for their efforts in spearheading sustainable development and environmental education. The day serves as a reminder of the crucial role teachers play in shaping future generations and contributing to social development through education.
At WJD Cloete Combined School, situated in Rietoog in the Hardap Region of Namibia, the school also recently celebrated its 75th birthday. They put together a week full of fun and exciting activities, which the learners and teachers all took part in, cementing their strong bond.
The first event was a science quiz night, where the learners were divided into different groups and had to answer science-related questions. The first group to hit the buzzer and answer the question correctly received a point. The competition was high and the teams were in it to win it!
Thereafter, WJD Cloete Combined School enjoyed an evening of literature to celebrate the joy of reading. According to their grades, the learners had to come up with a storyline from a book and then perform it as an act. The learners were well prepared, very invested in their craft, and they gave their best performances.
In appreciation of the events, the learners from WJD Cloete Combined School wrote and dedicated these letters to their teachers.
