Kelly Baitshoki reports on the fun and informative celebrations held at our Shashe, Gudigwa, Beetsha and Tshwaragano partner school Eco-Clubs to mark World Lion and Elephant days in mid-August.

On the 12th of August 2026, members of the Shashe, Gudigwa and Beetsha Eco-Clubs in the eastern Okavango Delta, and Tshwaragano Eco-Club in Gaborone celebrated combined World Lion and World Elephant Days (10th and 12th, respectively) through engaging and educational learning sessions.

The Eco-Club Co-ordinators presented a detailed lesson on wildlife conservation, highlighting the importance of protecting animal species and their habitats. They also shared valuable information about the unique characteristics, behaviours, and ecological significance of lions and elephants, emphasising their vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems.

To reinforce the day’s conservation message in an exciting and interactive way, learners participated in creative activities that showcased their understanding of these iconic animals. The children were tasked with drawing lions and elephants and crafting animal masks, encouraging their creativity while reinforcing their appreciation for wildlife conservation.
The celebrations successfully raised awareness about the importance of lions and elephants, and inspired learners to become active stewards of their environments and the wildlife that lives here.
