CITW Kenya September 2025 Update

World Clean-up Day

Through our Eco-Club lessons, members have been learning how to care for their environment by practicing the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

In celebration of World Clean-up Day, the students put these lessons into action by cleaning their school compound and setting a positive example for their peers. They also placed bins in designated areas to help maintain a clean and sustainable environment.

“In its drive to reduce waste and promote creativity, the Eco-Club introduced an upcycling project under the theme Trash to Treasure. Used materials were repurposed for new uses – for example, a cracked dustbin was filled with soil and used to grow kale, tomatoes and green peppers, turning waste into a productive resource. This initiative reduces pollution, saves costs and demonstrates practical environmental stewardship”. ~ Abel, Kisaruni Eco-Mentor

World Rhino Day

There are five species of rhinos, three of which – the Black, Javan, and Sumatran – are Critically Endangered. In honour of World Rhino Day, our Eco-Club members participated in activities aimed at raising awareness and supporting rhino conservation.

Eco-Club Lessons and Activities

The Eco-Club at Luoniek Secondary School in the Mugie Conservancy have just completed their first curriculum book. In the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle lesson, they collected waste materials and used the plastic bottles to make a garden.

Suguta Mugie Eco-Club is on Lesson 3 of the Giraffe Term 1 book: World Water Day.

“We held an engaging lesson with our Eco Warriors in celebration of World Water Day, aimed at raising awareness on the importance of water and the need for its sustainable use. The session was highly interactive, with learners actively participating in discussions on the uses of water, sources of water, challenges of water scarcity, and simple conservation practices such as rainwater harvesting and turning off taps after use. Through group activities, the Eco Warriors shared practical ideas on how to conserve water at school and at home, and they pledged to act as ambassadors of water conservation in their communities”. ~ Fauzia, Mugie Conservancy Eco-Mentor

Mara Rianda Primary School in the Masai Mara are currently on Warthog Book C Lesson 4

At Tafa Community Centre Naivasha, the Eco-Club recently completed their Warthog Term 3 book, and began their first lesson on Gardening & Soil from the Giraffe Book Term 1.
