The CITW Zimbabwe team is proud to announce the completion of two Early Childhood Development (ECD) classrooms at Ngamo Primary School and St. Mary’s Primary School in Zimbabwe due to a generous donation through Grand Circle Foundation. These classrooms mark a significant step forward in providing a nurturing and supportive environment for young learners in rural communities.
Ngamo Primary School, founded in 1946 and located in a region where most families rely on subsistence farming, caters to four villages. Until now, the youngest learners, 41 ECD children, lacked a dedicated classroom, hampering their earliest learning experiences. Similarly, St. Mary’s Primary School, established in 1935, supports 140 ECD students, but also faced challenges in providing an appropriate space for their education. Thanks to GCF’s support, both schools now have dedicated ECD classrooms.
These classrooms provide a safe, spacious, and well-ventilated learning environment, tailored to the developmental needs of young children. Secure storage facilities have also been included to ensure teaching materials and resources are well maintained and easily accessible.
While the classrooms are now operational, the outdoor play areas, which are integral to promoting physical development and social interaction, were constructed in the first term of this year. They will further enhance the learning experience, ensuring children have access to safe, engaging playground equipment designed to support their holistic growth.
The impact of these classrooms extends beyond the children they serve. At Ngamo Primary School, students from nine villages some of whom walk up to 6 kilometres to attend school will now have a space that meets their unique developmental needs. At St. Mary’s Primary School, which supports 970 students, the new ECD facilities are helping to strengthen the overall learning environment. Parents and caregivers in these communities are also empowered to actively participate in their children’s education, fostering a culture of learning and development.
The CITW team is thrilled to see how these new classrooms will transform the lives of young learners and their communities. Early childhood education is a critical period for cognitive, emotional, and social development, and with these classrooms, children from Ngamo and St. Mary’s now have the opportunity to build a brighter future.
