In November last year, the Children in the Wilderness (CITW) Botswana team and Tlamelo Bothma, Okavango Wilderness Safaris’ (OWS) Office Manager, came up with ideas to encourage OWS staff to give back to CITW. The team decided to rent spaces to staff in the Maun office complex for BWP50 per person, to sell any household goods, such as second-hand shoes, clothes, cutlery, etc., which they might be keen to get rid of.
The team raised enough funds to buy boys’ and girls’ flip-flops, underwear, school socks, t-shirts, shorts for boys, and ankle socks for both boys and girls.
“There is nothing that warms our hearts more than a warm child”, says CITW Botswana Assistant Administrator, Kelly Baitshoko.
On Monday 04July 2022, the CITW team, together with Tlamelo, delivered the hampers to the children at Shashe Primary School. There they met with Eco-Club Co-ordinators Mrs T. Maeze and Ms Mosimanyana to hand over the donations to the beneficiaries.
The school management truly appreciated the gesture, noting that the gifts would go a very long way.
The CITW Botswana team and Tlamelo Bothma would like to direct their special gratitude to the Ministry of Basic Education, OWS employees, Northern Air Maintenance employees, Kim Nixon – OWS MD, Trudi Waggot – OWS GM, and Segametsi Monnamorwa – OWS Environmental Department Manager, for the role they played in making sure that this initiative was successful.
