When it comes to education, it is often said that it is teachers who plant the seeds of knowledge within children. And once planted, these seeds then have the ability to grow spectacularly for years to come.
With this in mind, CITW Zambezi is able to see and understand the crucial role that teachers play for the youth of Zimbabwe – as well as witness first-hand the irreversible effects that the lack of consistent and experienced teachers can have on the education of these children.
With the ongoing teacher strikes across the country due to lack of wages, on top of the delays in the reopening of schools because of COVID-19, we at CITW felt that it was extremely important to show both our appreciation and encouragement to the teachers at Jabulani Primary and Secondary schools for the term ahead of them.
Earlier this week, the CITW Zambezi team travelled to the schools, located just outside of Victoria Falls, and delivered packs loaded with stationery and filled with all sorts of nutritious food for the 15 teachers across the primary and secondary schools. By donating these packs, our main aim is to alleviate some of the many struggles that these teachers are currently facing. But also to show them that their work in teaching is highly appreciated, and continues to be vitally important. Throughout the morning, while talking to teachers and handing out the packs, a quote by the well-known activist for female education, Malala Yousafzai, kept coming to mind: “One book, one pen, one child and one teacher can change the world!”
I believe this couldn’t be more true at this time for the teachers and students at schools across Zimbabwe.
