Motlhabaneng Primary School, two of the schools in the Molema Cluster of our Bobirwa Region in Botswana, celebrated Mother Earth Day at the end of March.
Mentors decided to focus the celebrations on the issue of litter. As all of our lessons do, the day started with a fun energiser to get the children excited for the Eco-Club session. Thereafter, some theory on the issue of litter – the importance of keeping our environment clean, how long it takes for items to decompose, why litter is so damaging to the environment, and what we can do to help.
Once the children have had the theory component of the lesson, we then conduct practical activities that consolidate the learning from the lesson. This entailed a quiz where the children had to think about how long it would take for certain items to decompose, as well as a clean up of the school. Well done to our Molema Cluster for organising this important celebration.
