Now more than ever, CITW Zambezi believes that children’s education on environmental awareness is vitally crucial in protecting and sustaining our beautiful wilderness areas. Through our Eco-Club programmes, we aim to build environmental awareness and empower students to find solutions and take constructive action on local pollution problems.
This week we were so pleased to see the Eco-Club members from Jabulani Primary School take the time out of their day to carry out a comprehensive litter pickup throughout the school’s village area. As a club, the children cleared up enough plastic and waste to fill ten large rubbish bags – and all had a spring in their step, and huge smiles plastered on their faces. It was truly inspiring to watch them find pure joy and excitement in the simple act of picking up litter. We can be sure that the key message of not littering will go home with the children, bringing further awareness into their community.
During times like this, we are able to witness first-hand the positive impact that our Eco-Clubs have on the mindset of these students, and recognise the importance of the ongoing environmental awareness education that we enable.
As Baba Dioum so perfectly conveyed, “In the end, we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. And we will understand only what we are taught”.
