Veroo Kaura reports from CITW Namibia that this week’s lesson was from our Eco-Club at Warmquelle Primary School in the far north-western Kunene Region of Namibia.
The lesson was about the plants in the school grounds.
Plants provide us with oxygen and food, and also provide us with clean air as well as support wildlife. It is important for children to become aware of their surroundings, including the plants and trees.
Each learner participated by giving us examples of why plants are important and they did a presentation by demonstrating how trees feel when they are cut down.
The lesson was fun and informative for the children who they were excited to do the lesson while gaining knowledge.
As seen in the pictures, we asked a learner to volunteer as a tree, with the other learners then cutting down the tree. We asked them about the disadvantages of cutting down trees and what could happen if our environment no longer had any trees.
Their answers included air pollution, no food for animals or humans, and animals may become extinct due to lack of food.
