CITW Rwanda Facilitates New Volleyball Court for Bisate Secondary School

Wilderness Rwanda and Children in the Wilderness (CITW) are delighted to have been able to support Bisate Secondary School and the surrounding community with a new volleyball court in the school grounds.

One of our first partner schools in Rwanda, Bisate Secondary is situated close to the luxury Wilderness Bisate and Reserve lodges in the Volcanoes National Park area.

Having run the CITW programme here since 2019, mention must be made of the first 29 scholarship students who graduated in 2025. We couldn’t be prouder of them!

The volleyball sports field is now in full use by the school’s 506 students and 23 teachers, as well as Bisate village community members. The construction of the court was made possible by a donation of USD 6,297.37 from generous guests Robert and Alison Green.

A volleyball court is necessary to ensure player safety, fair play, match enjoyment and proper physical development, and naturally, social interaction.

Further positive impacts of playing volleyball include the opportunity to create lifelong friendships, foster leadership and teamwork, and respect and communication, alongside the physical benefits of staying healthy and active.

The school’s Headmistress, Aline Ihirwe said, ‘One of the big challenges the school used to face, due to the small compound, was a decent playground for the students. The Bisate Secondary School team is deeply thankful for this donation and installation of a volleyball court, as well as equipment including four soccer balls, sports uniforms, 2 volleyball nets, and soccer ball pumps plus needles. We are so grateful to watch the best volleyball team develop in our community going forward.

‘We also really appreciate these Wilderness guests, the CITW team as well as the Bisate Community Committee for your continuous support of the school,’ she added.
