Wilderness and Children in the Wilderness Namibia celebrated Heritage Week from 14–20 September 2026, taking the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the rich cultural heritage that shapes our national identity, strengthens our sense of belonging, and connects generations.
Namibia’s heritage is reflected in the diverse, people-centred expressions of identity and memory, including our languages, music, dance, indigenous knowledge, traditional practices, and culinary dishes. These shared cultural practices not only preserve our history but also promote understanding, respect, and appreciation of our diversity.
Heritage Celebration Week reminded us that our many and varied cultures are an important part of what makes Namibia unique. By celebrating and embracing our shared heritage, we help build a more inclusive, united, and culturally proud society.
The Children in the Wilderness Eco-Club learners at Elias Amxab Combined School in Sesfontein, Kunene Region, celebrated Heritage Week by proudly wearing their traditional attire and showcasing their cultural dances.
It was a fun-filled and meaningful week, providing learners with the chance to share their cultural backgrounds, traditions, and historical knowledge with each other. Through these activities, the children celebrated the diversity of their communities while learning to appreciate and respect the different cultures that form Namibian society.
The Eco-Club members explored their creativity by making their own soldier hats, toy rifles, and other accessories using cardboard and paper.
Not only was their creativity and self-expression encouraged, but the activity also promoted environmental awareness by giving used materials a new purpose and contributing to recycling.
