January 2026 marked the resumption of school activities following the holiday break, with Eco-Clubs across our partner schools gradually returning to their normal school programmes. This month’s focus was on re-engaging students, enrolling new members, establishing leadership structures within the Eco-Clubs and resuming Eco-Club lessons and activities.
Eco-Club Lessons and Activities
This month our Eco-Clubs kicked off by enrolling new Eco-Club members to replace the outgoing Eco-Club members who have graduated to higher grades. New officials to head the clubs were also appointed.
CHEAKS Tests
CHEAKS (Children’s Environmental Attitude and Knowledge Scale) tests were conducted to assess their current attitude on the environment and wildlife, the same test will be conducted at the end of the year, to observe how the lessons and activities have influenced their attitude on envrionment.
These tests are still ongoing in some of the clubs.
International Zebra Day – 31 January 2026
Our Eco-Club members combined fun and learning to celebrate International Zebra Day at the end of the month. These activities strengthened the children’s understanding of zebras, and conservation, while encouraging them to link wildlife protection to their local environment.

“Eco-Club members were guided to the school fence line, where they observed zebras in their natural habitat and discussed what they could see, including zebra behaviour, movement, and patterns”.

“To commemorate world zebra day, Luoniek Secondary School Eco-Club created some artworks. They will put this on the walls of classes as a way of creating awareness to the rest of the students on zebra conservation”.
