World Environmental Education Day is celebrated on January 26 every year. It raises environmental awareness, promotes sustainable development, and identifies both local and global environmental issues.
At CITW Namibia, we aim to facilitate sustainable conservation through leadership development and education of children in Africa, and our Eco-Clubs benefit from hands-on environmental education that connects learning to real life. By engaging with nature, conservation activities, and outdoor learning experiences, children develop confidence and a sense of belonging within their community.
CITW Namibia celebrates this special day through school, community, and corporate initiatives focusing on education, waste reduction, and conservation, while the Ministry of Education gives awards to schools and youth for their efforts in Education for a Cleaner Future initiatives. Other activities include environmental clean-ups, educational workshops and cultural performances focused on creating awareness on how indigenous knowledge enhances conservation by the locals living off the land.
The Eco-Club members also learn more about the various biomes and marine life, and meet experts in a number of fields linked to environmental protection and conservation.
CITW Namibia’s goal is to educate young learners by understanding their role in protecting nature and encouraging values such as responsibility, teamwork, and respect for the environment.
This year, we are celebrating our Eco-Club learners who have dedicated their time to doing environmental duties, and in addition to this, achieved a high academic pass rate in their Namibian Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary Level examinations. This shows that when children are supported by their communities and learn in nurturing environments, they thrive both academically and personally.

Children in the Wilderness is very excited to see what the future holds for our learners and can’t wait to see the impact they will have on the environment and communities at large.
