The Chien family from the United States recently visited Zimbabwe and as part of their visit to Jabulani Primary School, wanted to donate soccer and netball uniforms for the students. The Children in the Wilderness (CITW) team pre-arranged the acquisition of the soccer goal posts, nets, netball hoops, soccer balls, netballs, and ordered the kits – enough for a full team for both sports.
After meeting with Sefiwe Ndlovu, the school founder, the guests, accompanied by their two children, got their donations together to hand out to the Jabulani students. The childrengot very involved, handing out uniforms to the Jabulani girls and boys who had lined up neatly in two lines – one for soccer and one for netball. While the students were getting ready to play, the family went on a tour of the school.
With much excitement and the students changed into their uniforms, it was time for the games to begin. Not familiar with netball, as it is not common in the United States, the guests watched the game with great interest and admiration. When it came time for the soccer game, however, the family joined in and had much fun with the students. Before long and having spent much energy running around the soccer pitch, it was time for the guests to leave. Grateful for their newly acquired uniforms, the students said thank-you and fare-welled them as they left the school.
We would like to thank the Chien family for their generous donation to the students of Jabulani Primary School. Playing sport is an integral part of school life, and inter-school sporting events happen regularly. The students of Jabulani will be proud to wear their new kit on future sports days and will look very smart representing their school.
