Diacore Gaborone Marathon Sports in the Wilderness

The Diacore Gaborone Marathon (DGM) is Botswana’s largest charity sporting event, and we are delighted to note that Children in the Wilderness (CITW) is a beneficiary of their fundraising generosity.

Building up to the event, CITW will be hosting environmentally-themed track and field “Sports in the Wilderness” days in 15 Botswana Eco-Club schools from Monday, 11 February.

“As children express more confidence in sports than in class, we know these sports days will have a positive impact; in addition, through these activities we are able to instil an essential environmental ethos, as well as other mental and physical benefits,” notes CITW Regional Programme Manager, Janet Wilkinson.

The CITW sports programme is designed to promote the fitness of the children, whilst simultaneously inspiring them to work together as a team. The children will be able to participate in athletics events, including individual running races, and team events including soccer, netball and volleyball.

With the Gaborone-based Diacore event’s race distances catering for every fitness level from elite to fun runners, the DGM is also a great opportunity to help raise awareness for breast cancer, the event’s theme this year.
