Wilderness Damaraland Camp has been a model for community-based conservation initiatives since 1996 – an award-winning partnership between Wilderness Namibia and the neighbouring Torra Conservancy. Here, guests can visit De Riet village, and meet the residents – our partners – many of whom are staff members and other service providers for the camp.
De Riet Kindergarten has a community hostel housing 30 learners in total. Its nutrition scheme depends on donations, mainly from Wilderness, through its guests, and other supporters.
Recently, the school received a large donation of kitchenware: cutlery, utensils, three-legged pots, and wash-basins for their day-to-day activities. The donation targets SDG 2 (Sustainable Development Goals) – the need for better nutrition –aiming to “end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture”.
Healthy eating is an important part of the school routine, and thanks to the support of Wilderness guest the children can enjoy a decent warm meal in time, instead of waiting long hours for food preparation because of a shortage of kitchen equipment.
Having a little party to celebrate their windfall

As you can see, all types of contributions are very important to our most important people, the children we serve. The De Riet Kindergarten staff and Torra Conservancy members extend their sincere thanks to the Wilderness guests and Children in the Wilderness Namibia for this generous donation.
