CITW Kenya Community Co-ordinator Sharon Muthoni reports on an active month for the region’s Eco-Clubs. Despite the rainy season, Eco-Mentors delivered lessons across partner schools, while students participated in conservation activities, including World Hippo Day and World Pangolin Day celebrations.
School Supplies Distributed Across Partner Schools
In February, we distributed 700 exercise books, 300 pens, 108 pencils, packs of crayons, scissors, masking tape and footballs to our partner schools.
World Hippo Day – 15 February 2026
Naomi, Eco-Mentor for the Margaret Kenyatta Primary School Eco-Club, marked World Hippo Day with the children on a number of activities.
1. Classroom lesson on hippos
2. Watching a documentary on hippos
3. A walk to a nearby pool where hippos are often seen.
4. Modelling of a hippo cow and its calf.

World Pangolin Day – 21 February 2026
Tafa Eco-Club members’ pangolin artwork in celebration of pangolins and their conservation
‘Covered in distinctive hard scales, pangolins are shy, elusive, and nocturnal mammals found across Africa and Asia. Kenya is home to two species of African ground pangolins: Temminck’s pangolin (Smutsia temminckii) and the giant pangolin (Smutsia gigantea). They also participated in an educational game drive where they learned about wildlife and wildlife conservation.
