YES Club in Malawi – Giving back to their community

CITW Malawi Regional Coordinator Symon Chibaka reports that in October YES Club members held environmental education talks and demonstrations at Kande Health Centre, Chintheche, Nkhata Bay.

One of the major activities for the YES and Eco-Clubs since August this year has been community environment and sanitation awareness. During the Kande Health Centre Event, the youth conducted a number of activities, which included:

  • Sweeping around the health centre
  • Picking up plastic litter and burn it
  • Talking to people around the health centre about the three “Rs”, as a way of mitigating plastic litter
  • Donated brooms, gloves and floor-cleaning chemicals

Such activities are included on YES Clubs’ planned annual schedule, which also includes environmental awareness.

The YES Club members comprise CITW participants from Eco-Clubs now graduated to an advanced level of learning, enthusiastically putting into practice what they have learned.
