Last week Friday, 27 August, the Wilderness Family of Victoria Falls celebrated Heritage Day in one of the most appropriate ways possible – by visiting the Falls themselves! After a morning hard at work at the office, we set out at lunchtime.
With everyone dressed in their heritage best, we arrived at the Falls and had a packed-lunch picnic on the grass. From there, we made our way to Devil’s Cataract for a group photo, and then spent the next couple of hours walking around at our own pace, taking in the beauty of this World Wonder on our doorstep.
Due to COVID-19, we were not able to celebrate Heritage Day in 2020. This made the excursion to the Falls even more special, as many in the team remarked on how lovely it was to have a staff function and outing again after such a long time.
Firm friendships have been formed among our team, and it is on days such as this where we really feel like the Wilderness Family we are.
Heritage Day was also celebrated in the various camps around Zimbabwe. The photos below are from Ruckomechi, where staff had a wonderful day dressed in their traditional gear. This also added a special flair for the guests who were in camp, and who had the opportunity to learn even more about local cultures in Zimbabwe.
