Thanks to a few incredibly generous OAT travellers, CITW Zambezi has been able to make a greatly appreciated donation of four high-quality sewing machines to the Lukosi Secondary Textile Technology & Design Department.
Prior to this donation, the school did not have easy access to any sewing machines, making the teaching of this highly practical subject almost impossible. The only time the children would be able to practice their newly taught sewing skills was around the time in which they had to complete their course work – and only made possible by the school borrowing machines for their students.
Due to this, children learning the subject of fashion and fabrics were at a huge disadvantage, as they were not receiving the quality of education that they deserved. The four new sewing machines have already made a huge impact on the Fashion & Fabrics lessons, and each student has been able to learn more practical sewing skills in the past few months than ever before.
Below is a letter from the Textile Technology & Design Teacher to CITW, and the OAT travellers:
Dear Sir/ Madam,
On behalf of Lukosi Secondary Textile Technology & Design Department, I would like to convey my sincere gratitude for the machines you kindly donated to our school.
We did not have any functional machines before this, hence we had to borrow machines for our Form 4 learners to use to work on their coursework garments. In the department, we are currently training 246 learners who will be using these machines. Before the donation, learners were often demotivated because as a school we did not have any machines for them to utilise, hence many of them were simply not attending lessons. Since we have received the generous donation, all learners are now enthusiastically attending lessons.
Yours faithfully,
Mavita Mutemo – Fashion Technology & Design Teacher
From all at CITW Zambezi, a huge thank you goes to the generous travellers from OAT who made the donation of these four sewing machines possible.
