Don Heyneke is the co-founder of Escape Safari Co, an intimate specialist safari travel company that offers tailor-made, once-in-a-lifetime safaris that are “inspired by curiosity.” He is also an avid mountain biker, and has attended the Nedbank Tour de Tuli twice as a Cyclist Leader.
So what better adventure for Don to join us on, than the CITW annual camp at Jacana, in Botswana’s Okavango Delta….
In a nutshell, I think the programme was brilliant and the mentors go to extraordinary lengths to make the camp a success for the children! It was honestly inspiring to see! I think the programme has a balance between fun, “knowledge acquisition”, practical scenarios, life skills and mentorship.
In the bush, I saw the kids become super excited and engaged, and I thought that the visit by the chief was incredibly powerful.
Gaba, Riri, Mix, Freddy, Naba and all the Jacana staff were absolutely amazing! I could see the impact the programme had on the children at the end, and they had absorbed more than I thought.
