Footwear donation to the children of De Riet Kindergarten

A pair of shoes is one of the most basic, but important human needs – protecting our feet against the adversities of the environment. All around the world, a pair of shoes is required as a part of a school uniform, but due to poverty millions of children go barefoot.

After seeing children attend school in footwear which would leave most of us aghast, it is only natural to act upon it. One of our guests, Mr Richelieu Hemphill, who recently visited Wilderness Doro Nawas, did exactly that, and donated 25 pairs of shoes to the children of De Riet Kindergarten earlier this month.

This is Mr Hemphill’s second donation to De Riet Village in as many years. In 2021 he donated 20 food parcels to the elderly residents, and 20 mattresses to the kindergarten.

The look of excitement on the children’s faces was priceless – expressing pure joy while putting on their shoes.

The teachers and community members of Tora Conservancy are extremely grateful to Mr Hemphill, Wilderness, and Children in the Wilderness, for this beautiful and important gift of footwear.
