Recognised by the United Nations, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty aims to raise awareness about the need to reduce poverty worldwide, especially in developing countries. The day focuses on reaching out to those in need, and prioritising those needs. It acknowledges the challenges faced by people living in poverty, and encourages awareness campaigns and community initiatives. This day is closely connected to the UN’s first Sustainable Development Goal, which aims to “end poverty in all its forms everywhere”.

In honour of this impactful goal, CITW Namibia hosted a group of learners participating in our Youth Environmental Stewardship (YES) Programme of educational activities.
This year, the YES Programme in Namibia focused on career exposure and life lessons, aiming to engage students with professionals from various industries. The goal was to show the Club members that they can achieve their aspirations through education.

The students visited institutions such as the University of Namibia and the Namibian University of Science and Technology to learn about the different courses offered at these universities. They also toured the Ministry of Mines and Energy, where they examined Namibian minerals, rocks, and fossils in the museum. Additionally, they visited the National Commission on Research, Science, and Technology, where they were given a tour of the laboratory. This was a truly enlightening experience for the YES Club learners, and following the trip, most of them have now decided on their future careers.
