Born and bred in the Netherlands, Wilderness Safaris Rwanda Operations Manager and CITW Programme Coordinator, Ingrid and her husband Rob Baas share a passion for travel. One of the first countries they travelled to in Africa was Zambia, and after quickly falling in love with the country, their hospitality careers began in 2007 with Wilderness Safaris in Kafue National Park.
Almost immediately, Ingrid volunteered with Children in the Wilderness, helping out at a children’s annual camp, as she had some free time in her role as relief manager.
“This first experience was amazing and I knew there was no turning back. I am still doing this 14 years later!”
This CITW camp was held at Lufupa Camp, and was not only Ingrid’s first CITW camp, but also the first CITW camp for the Zambia region.
“It was all so exciting at that time – moving from the Netherlands to Africa, living in the bush, working for Wilderness Safaris and being introduced to CITW! In the image below will you see the late lamented Geoffrey Aupiti – a CITW Botswana legend, affectionately known as Mr Bones. He sadly passed away in July 2015, and is still greatly missed”.
