The Tour de Rooiberg is a mountain bike ride taking place from Thursday 24 March to Sunday 27 March 2022. This tour gives mountain bikers a chance to explore the secluded private Welgedacht Elandsberg Nature Reserve (situated outside of Rooiberg town) with family and friends, while raising funds for Children in the Wilderness.
The 2022 Tour de Rooiberg will be a family-friendly tour where we will create a riding route that will be suitable for the younger rider, giving families the opportunity to spend quality time together in a safe and scenic environment.
As this is a fundraising event for Children in the Wilderness, we will incorporate some of our programme activities into the itinerary to keep the youngsters entertained whilst at the lodge – giving the adults a chance to relax and mingle with new friends.
Just a two-and-a-half hour drive from Johannesburg, families have the opportunity to escape the city and enjoy 30 000 acres of unspoilt wilderness reserve from the saddle of their bicycles. Given that this is a ride and not a race, it allows cyclists to soak in the beautiful mountainous scenery while sharing the experience with a group of like-minded riders and family.
Limited to only 50 guests, riders will be split into four riding groups, where well thought-out routes, totalling approximately 30 km to 40 km each day, will be explored. A bush brunch is offered on all riding days to ensure riders are fuelled to complete the day’s ride. As it is a tour and not a race, riders are encouraged to stop as often as they like along the route, and take in as much of the beautiful environment as possible. Our trusty Land Rover volunteers will be set along the route to ensure there is constant support for our riders, and volunteer medical support will be on hand to assist with any injuries.
The private Welgedacht Elandsberg Nature Reserve does not allow access to the public, and the only chance you will have to ride here is on the Tour de Rooiberg.
So sign up now for the inaugural Tour de Rooiberg, and don’t miss the opportunity to be part of this pioneering event!
