The Tour de Rooiberg is a mountain bike ride taking place from Friday 16 April to Sunday 18 April 2021. This tour gives experienced mountain bikers a chance to explore the secluded Welgedacht Elandsberg Nature Reserve (situated outside of Rooiberg town) while raising funds for Children in the Wilderness.
Just a two-and-a-half hour drive from Johannesburg, advanced and intermediate riders have the opportunity to escape the city and enjoy 30 000 acres of unspoilt wilderness reserve from their saddles. Given that this is a ride and not a race, it allows cyclists to soak in the beautiful mountainous scenery while sharing the experience with a group of like-minded riders.
Please scroll to the end of the page for the Registration Form.
This event is not for the faint-hearted! Although it is a ride and not a race, the route is challenging and only advanced or intermediate riders should sign up. Unless you are a lucky person with an e-bike. Yes, e-bikes are certainly welcome and will give you much respite on all the uphills!
Limited to only 50 guests, riders will be split into four riding groups to take on the challenging terrain of the Welgedacht Elandsberg Nature Reserve, where well thought-out routes, totalling approximately 50 km to 60 km each day, will be explored. A bush brunch is offered on both the Saturday and Sunday rides to ensure riders have the energy to complete this challenge. Our trusty Land Rover volunteers will be set along the route to ensure there is constant support for our riders, and volunteer medical support will be on hand to assist with any injuries.
Riders will be accommodated at the charming Blaauwbank Game Lodge, where the African sunset can be enjoyed while sipping on your preferred drink, and sharing stories from the day’s ride. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners will be served at Blaauwbank Game Lodge, and are included in the minimum entry donation.
Blaauwbank Game Lodge offers comfortable shared accommodation where riders will feel like they have been taken back in time. The large en-suite rooms can accommodate up to four people per room. Riders will be allocated to rooms based on the entry donation they submit. Please remember to let us know if there is a specific person you would like to bunk with.
The private Welgedacht Elandsberg Nature Reserve does not allow access to the public, and the only chance you will have to ride here is on the Tour de Rooiberg.
So sign up now for the inaugural Tour de Rooiberg, and don’t miss the opportunity to be part of this pioneering event
